THE ORISHAS
Gods of the Yoruba

The Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria worship over 400 divine spirits called Orishas — each one a deified ancestor and a force of nature simultaneously. When the transatlantic slave trade scattered the Yoruba across the Americas, the Orishas traveled with them. They are worshipped today in Nigeria, Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad, Haiti, and across the diaspora. The most resilient mythology on Earth.

The Tradition

They couldn’t stop the gods from crossing the ocean.

The Yoruba pantheon is unique in world mythology because it survived the worst catastrophe a culture can endure: the forced dispersal of its people. When enslaved Yoruba were brought to the Americas, they carried their gods in their memories. In Brazil, the Orishas became Candomblé. In Cuba, Santería. In Haiti, they merged with Vodou. In Trinidad, the Shango religion. The names changed. The gods didn’t.

Olodumare, the supreme creator, sent the Orishas to populate the earth. There were 17 originals. Only one was female — Oshun, goddess of love, beauty, and fresh water. The male Orishas tried to create the world without her and failed. When they finally asked for her help, she brought her sweet waters and life returned to the earth. Humanity exists because a goddess was excluded, then invited back.

The Pantheon — Eight Orishas, Eight Brands

Each Orisha is a brand.

THE ORISHAS is not one product line — it is eight. Each major Orisha becomes its own sub-brand with its own color, product category, and audience. Together, they form a pantheon of brands that can be acquired individually or as a collection.
