Thora Borgarhjört was a noblewoman — the daughter of Earl Herrauðr of Götaland. Her father gave her a small serpent as a gift. It grew. And grew. Until two enormous venomous snakes guarded her residence and no one could approach. Ragnar came in tarred leather breeches (earning his nickname “Lothbrok” — hairy breeches), killed the serpents, and won Thora’s hand.
She gave him his most famous sons — Björn Ironside and Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye among them. She was not a warrior. She was the reason warriors fight. The prize behind the poison. The beauty that requires bravery to reach.
